Unlucky in Love

I have never been lucky in love. I have written a collection of tragic love stories. They are heartbreaking because I love without limits. I throw myself into love wholly and completely. The crashes are devastating.

I have never been lucky in love. I have written a collection of tragic love stories. They are heartbreaking because I love without limits. I throw myself into love wholly and completely. The crashes are devastating.

I have grown hesitant and protective since my last failed attempt. But, I still dream of love stories to be written by me. It takes a certain kind of bravery to keep trying and I like to think I have that type of courage.

This brings me to Valentine’s Day, that day of celebration for love and relationships. What is a single person to do? We are faced with being benched again, desperate to get in the game.

I tried resenting Valentine’s Day and being snarky about it for a couple years, but that didn’t fit my personality. I tried “tandem love creation”, which entailed me helping others make the most of love’s magic by helping to plan elaborate ways for them to celebrate together. I guess I thought it would all rub off on me and that would somehow bring love to my door. That didn’t work either.

The years keep passing. The game gets more complicated. The rules seem to constantly change. You go from player to fan. You move from the bench to the stands.

I enjoy watching from the stands. I am like those sports fans that paint their bodies with their team’s colors, host tailgate parties and never leave before the game ends. I am a true believer. Hope springs eternal inside me. This season my team will win the championship. We have waited so long and worked so hard.

It’s our turn.

Love,

Casey

The rings I wear every day are filled with talismans of love.

  1. Ahh, I’m married, and have been for 40 some years. But every year I be sure to make it a special day for my folks and even my best friend. How about a favorite niece or nephew, your sister. I know this is not what you’re looking for but its a connection to someone! And I know that love story to top all love stories is out there for you. Sometimes it just takes so darn long to actually realize it!
