The Best of Humanity

From their far off locations away from the noise and jostling, I am tagged in a post or mentioned in a comment.

The next few minutes together is not going to be a pro & con debate about social media. Very boring and overdone. However, that form of communication has always been like a delightful cocktail party to me.  I have never typed a comment I would not deliver face-to-face at said garden party or soiree.

I like hearing about trips, trials, tribulations, and accomplishments online from friends and family.  If I fall into strange or hateful discourse via screen, I simply find the grace to walk away from that dance partner and find another dancer.

Recently I have been deeply touched when friends, and some strangers, send me photos over the internet from their vacations. From their far off locations away from daily routine noise and jostling, I am tagged in a post or mentioned in a comment. Facebook or Instagram, they choose. These are usually things in nature that I love. Love I have shared on little and big screens.  Moss, lichen, blossoms. Delicate treasures that are producing such beauty in what is usually the most challenging of conditions.

For me, there is no “down” side or “dark” side to social media.  I put into it what I usually garner in return. A helpful comment, ideas, inspiration, enlightenment, awareness, care, concern.

The best of humanity is in the little moments.  To think that people who are on the trip of a lifetime spot something, think of me, snap a photo, log-in, post, and comment leaves me knowing that love really does take all forms.

See you at the party, I hope.

Sloane

p.s. My deepest thanks to Ryan, Doug, Lesli, and Lisa for sending me such wonderful gifts from Italy and the great American West. Photo credits to them.

  1. Isn’t that the truth. Just today a cousin posted several pictures from an event 9 years ago that showed about six loved ones that are no longer here. Although it brought tears it also was such a blessed gift. Works both ways too – so fun to see or hear something a friend would like and you can quickly send it off to let them know you’re thinking of them. Great post as always – thanks

I know, right? Aren’t those photos powerful? I just re-posted a photo from a year ago of a man I do not see enough and love dearly!

Thank you, as always, for reading our blog and taking precious time to send a note.

      Take care.
