“F**k, I glued my fingers together.”
“It will be okay. Don’t panic.”
“It’s Gorilla Glue. They are really stuck.”
“Just come out. I can’t hold this any longer.”
“But, I am going to be a MOTHER.”
“Jesus, you’re not going to be a mother today. Come out.”
“Fine.”
We thought it was good idea for Sloane to lift an impossibly heavy completely full cabinet while Casey glued a leg back on from under the cabinet. Casey was eight months pregnant. The glue rolled down Casey’s hand and bound two of her fingers together as if they had been taped side-by-side with steel tape.
Once Casey climbed out and Sloane set the cabinet back on its half-assed repaired leg, the laughter began. Laughter that cleansed our souls.
Laughter has been at the core of our sisterhood. It has seen us through the amazing, the impossible, the triumphant, and the tragic. We have worked together for over 33 years. We have been sisters for over 51. We are both inseparable and autonomous. We are fierce and gentle. We are unpredictable and completely reliable. We are brave and afraid. We are sisters.
The dresser is still behind our checkout counter, the leg is still glued in place, and the unborn baby is now a freshman in high school. We have crossed into our 24th year in business. We still laugh with our entire bodies. We still share the secret language of sisterhood.
We will spend Thanksgiving at Sloane’s home with our families. We will set our burdens down. We will join hands in gratitude for the abundant love we share in our family. We will fill our stomachs and our hearts. We will all share tales from the past.
We will undoubtedly laugh. The laughter will free our souls and expand the space in our hearts. We are sisters. We are blessed. And…
…we are thankful for you. You made our dream of creating a store named STUFF come true.
PS. Gorilla glue can be removed by soaking your hands in olive oil.
I am so thankful to have known each of you since your birth. The life you have created since that birth is nothing less than astounding and amazing and awesome and……
Love you both and all you do for each other, your family and your fab business(which is one of a kind in KC).
Many blessings to you for many more years to come! You rock!!
Nancy…
We will forever be grateful for your sense of humor and love. We can still remember the laughter you and our mother shared when we were children. It was intoxicating and joyful. We learned, from your relationship with our mother, how goofiness and laughter is one of the magically gifts of a loving friendship. Our most heart felt Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Thank you for sharing your lives with me.
Thank YOU for choosing to be in our lives. We are lucky indeed.
What a wonderful Thanksgiving letter!
Thank you, Liz! Happy Thanksgiving to you!
Love it! Hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful.
Hugs to you!!
You two are the best! And secretly, I’m extremely jealous of your relationship with each other, but that’s a conversation to be had over copious amounts of cocktails. Cheers to The Stuff Sisters!
We love you, Ramelle!
We look terribly forward to those cocktails……

p.s. Thanks for reading our blogs and thanks for all the laughs, p. claire.
But HOW did you get Casey’s fingers unstuck?! (And thanks for sharing this great story. Now that dresser behind your checkout counter means so much more to all of us.)
Darren:
It involved olive oil, I think.
And yes, that dresser ROCKS!
Thank you for reading our blogs and taking time to send a note. You are the best.
